The fourteenth season of Grey's Anatomy will premiere on September 28, 2017 with a two hour special[1]. The season will have twenty four episodes in total[2], including the three hundredth episode of Grey's Anatomy.[3]

On February 10, 2017, ABC renewed Grey's Anatomy for a fourteenth season.[3]

Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey, announced that she will be directing several episodes[4], while Kevin McKidd, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt, will direct the second episode of the season. Krista Vernoff, who departed as a writer in the seventh season, has returned as a writer for the show.[3]

The season promises to be sexier and funnier compared to the previous seasons, and return to roots.[5] Production started on July 17 2017 and will complete in April 2018.

  • As of September 2017, there are no plans to bring back Jerrika Hinton as Stephanie Edwards, who departed at the end of season thirteen.[6]
  • Dr. Leah Murphy, as played by Tessa Ferrer, has departed the series again following a short return last season. The character of Eliza Minnick has departed as well.[7]
  • The three hundredth episode will be the seventh episode of season fourteen.[3]
